World class Tarpon fishing is to be found at Cayo Las Bruja on the north coast of Villa Clara province in central Cuba, approximately three and a half hours from Havana. The area has been declared as a Unesco biosphere reserve and has beautiful channels, mangroves and flats.
Tarpon between 10 and 40 lbs are present in the area year round, very big fish 100 lbs and over come into the area from March onwards. Fishing for big snappers and jacks is also great on a fly. The vicinity of the Bahamas Channel offshore offers good possibilities for Wahoo, Dorado and tuna. The area is limited to 8 boats, each holding two fishermen.
