THE FUSCHER ACHE
Trout and Grayling
Fishing the SalzachThe Fuscher Ache is a relatively small river with a variety of riffling runs, deep pools and shallow glides.  In the earlier stages of the season it is better suited to small weighted nymphs, and fishing a team of two or three flies.

During the summer period, small dry flies and a selection of nymphs are the most successful patterns.  The dries are best fished up and across stream covering those fish taking shelter under overhanging trees.

In the faster water it is suggested that a yellow fly line be used in order to be able to detect the slightest touch or take from a fish. Mending the fly line and keeping slack line to a minimum is essential, to again detect potential takes.

Leaders should be between nine and ten feet in length and tapered in order to produce a delicate presentation for smaller fly patterns.  The fish a fairly spooky and care must be taken when wading or entering the water.  The trick with these Austrian rivers is to pick your way up the river quietly and cover every potential hiding place, whether it be a back eddy with a team of weighted nymphs or a shallow run under a tree.

The water is in easy driving distance of the hotel and within forty minutes of the town there are much larger stretches on bigger rivers that can also be fished.  The presentation is the most crucial thing when fishing such rivers and very rarely will you have to fish more than 30 feet of line out of the rod tip.

Austria has some wonderful fishing and all is set amongst breathtaking scenery.
ACCOMMODATION
Hotel Hollern
Hotel HollernThe Hotel Hollern is an attractive Austrian Style Hotel, which lies amongst the wonderful Austrian Mountains in the small town of Bruck.  It has very comfortable rooms with bathrooms and stunning views of the Valley. The owners Sally and Ewald are very helpful and their food is second to none.  There is fishing right up in the mountains on smaller stretches of the Fuscher Ache, which lead down to the main river which flows past the hotel.  For a day with a difference there is a still water in Haid which is full of Browns and Rainbows, and also huge Sturgeon!!

All fish in the river are totally wild and have not seen a fly for a number of years, because the river was in private hands.  Grayling can be caught on the rivers as well as Arctic Char, Rainbows and wild Browns.
