Fishing Seasons: All Year - October to May Prime Time

Recommended stays:

Nxamaseri Lodge

Nxamaseri is a small luxury lodge built on a heavily wooded island in one of the world's most renowned wilderness areas - the Okavango Delta.  The lodge is surrounded by tranquil river channels and expansive floodplains and specializes in fishing and birding.  The main lodge has spectacular views over the Nxamaseri channel and surrounding floodplains.  Wooden boardwalks lead to six private brick and thatch chalets with private bathrooms and outside decks overlooking the waterways.  All meals are included.

The lodge has over the last twenty years earned the reputation as one of Southern Africa's finest destinations for large Tiger Fish and Bream.

Other Activities

Birding and game viewing.  The bird life at Nxamaseri is prolific - over 350 species having been recorded.  Day trips to Mahango Game Park which is one of Southern Africa's prime wilderness areas for sable and roan antelope.  It also has good populations of elephant, hippo, buffalo, kudu, wildebeest, sitatunga and red lechwe.

The Kubu Queen

The Kubu Queen is a houseboat based up in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta, in an area where there is permanent water.  Fishing for tiger fish and bream takes place on the main Okavango River as well as the smaller Boro and Nqoga Rivers and on some of the quieter backwaters and lagoons in the area.  The boat sleeps a maximum of four guests in two rooms; each room has a double bed and all meals are included.  It is chartered to one group at a time for their exclusive use so privacy, exclusivity, flexibility and remoteness are the key elements.  As the boat is fully self-contained, it can be moored anywhere for the night - be it alongside a remote island or on a quiet lagoon - anywhere which takes your fancy.

You will come across hippo, crocodiles, red lechwe and the rare and elusive sitatunga antelope but game viewing is not the main highlight - it is the birds, the fishing, the isolation and the whole water experience.  We would strongly recommend a few days on the Kubu Queen combined with Impalila or Susuwe Lodge in Namibia
