HENRI'S FORK OF THE SNAKE

The river is challenging and fishermen return time and again to test their skills and patience. From the dam at Island Park the river enters the area known as the Box canyon, where the water is fast and belies its 'spring creek' image. The three-mile stretch of the Box Canyon, where the water is usually floated. Between the Canyon and Last Chance, the terrain changes to a wider valley. It is much slower here and moves into a channel 100 yards wide. There are about seven miles of river in this section, known as 'The Ranch'. Floating is preferable in order to cover the water and avoid the necessity of walking fairly long distances.
