FLY FISHING FOR MAHSEER IN THE HIMALAYAS
India - Mahseer fishing
We are pleased to offer you some of the finest fishing for Mahseer on the most productive beats of the rivers and the lakes in the Indian Himalayas.  Here the odds of trophy game fish are consistently high - you will be fishing off the beaten track with excellent guides.  The Mahseer inhabits the torrential rivers and perennial rivulets of the sub-mountainous terrain in the foothills of the Himalayas.  It can be found up to and altitude of 2,500 ft above sea level.  The rivers considered to be the strongholds of the Himalayan Mahseer include the Ganges and its tributaries, the Eastern and Western Ramganga, the Mahakali and its tributaries, the Kosi, the Beas and its tributaries, the Sutlej and its tributaries, the Bhramaputra and its tributaries, the Ravi and its tributaries, the Yammuna and its tributaries, and the Indus and its tributaries.

You do not have to worry about being really fit.  Hikes and walks are relatively short and you are given a hiking stick.  Everything else is carried for you. While on the river you will be camping but it is very comfortable.  You will not need to help with setting up the camp or the cooking, this is all done for you.  Each person has their own tent with a bed, inflatable mattress, sleeping bag and a pillow.  A table and a small stool is put into each tent.  Proper dry pit toilets are used for guests, one for three guests and there is a shower tent so that everyone can shower easily.

The expeditions normally use rafts so that you can spend the maximum time on the river and move downriver from beat to beat in the raft.  Fishing for Mahseer on some Himalayan lakes is also available.

There is fishing for Trout in the Himalayas, both in the smaller rivers and lakes, a base camp is usually set up and anglers are driven up and down the beats.  Some of the remoter lakes and streams are only accessible by a trek, mostly a short one, for which adequate arrangements are made with porters and/or mules to carry all the gear up to the beats.  The goal is to try to find spots that are not frequented by the average angler, thus providing guests with a truly unique experience.

SUGGESTED FLY FISHING HOLIDAY

Located on the border of India and Nepal, the river Mahakali is a torrential and voluminous river. Its location has ensured that it remains relatively isolated and this perhaps has been a major factor for it being one of the most productive rivers in North India for the Mahseer. The Kali is a snow fed river, just like most other Himalayan rivers, and originates from rivulets draining glaciers both in India and Nepal.
Pancheshwar, is the Kali's most famous beat, this is where the Saryu and the Kali converge. Over the years the finest fish have been taken from this beat.

SUGGESTED FLY FISHING HOLIDAY
Day 1 Fly Heathrow/New Delhi International Airport.
Day 2 You will be met and escorted to a hotel - rest of the day resting/at leisure.  Evening transfer to the Delhi Railway station where you will board the overnight train to Kathgodam, departing at 2145 - accommodation is in first class compartments and comfortable for sleeping.
Day 3 Arrive in Kathgodam at 0630.  You will be met and taken for breakfast before beginning the drive through the base of the Himalayas to Pancheshwar (approx 1/2hr drive).  The scenery through the mountains is spectacular, there will be a stop to eat a packed lunch en route.  Afternoon arrival into Pancheshwar - settle into camp, which is set up on the banks of the river.  Should you be inclined, after a cup of tea or coffee, you can set up the gear and begin fishing!
Day 4 Fish all day at Pancheshwar, which is considered the most lucrative of all the beats on this river.
Day 5 Spend day fishing some of the other beats upstream of Pancheshwar.
Day 6 Depending on how productive the fishing is, we may choose to either stay on at Pancheshwar or begin to move downstream.
Day 7 Spend an extra day on one of our preferred locations to give anglers more time to concentrate on this main section of water.
Day 8 The plan is flexible, depending on the conditions/fishing.
Day 9 Choose from the many beats the river has to offer and camp accordingly.
Day 10 The expedition proceeds further down river to the confluence of the Chukka whish is a great fishing location.
Day 11 Fish some other rewarding areas down river.
Day 12 The expedition rafts down to Tanakpur.  This is an excellent stretch for white water rafting - the river is beautiful, passing through many gorges and is very wide in places too.  You will float through a 7-kilometre gorge, encountering a number of Class 2 and Class 3 rapids.  At the end of the float trip you will be driven back to Kathgodam to board the overnight train to Delhi in a first class compartment.
Day 13 On arrival at Delhi railway station, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.  You can either return to the UK that evening or spend more time in Delhi.
Day 14 Arrive UK.
