FreshwaterSlovenia
Slovenia is an interesting country where the scenery changes continuously within a small area.  There are rivers which retain their primeval character, not spoiled by man's intervention and their beauty is unsurpassed.  Here you will find crystal clear alpine rivers, deep lakes, fabulous chalk streams, small brooks and wide rivers.

SOCA
Trout & Grayling
The Soca is the jewel of the Slovenian rivers.  From its source to the small town of Tolmin it has preserved its wild character.  It is populated by the indigenous marble trout, brown trout and Soca grayling.  The marble trout can grow to an enormous size - the record stands at 20kg.  The best period for fishing is usually late August and September, but excellent sport is to be had in April, May and June.Click to see more pictures of the Soca and its tributaries

UNEC AND KRKA
Trout & Grayling
The Unec, with its surrounding countryside, is without doubt one of the most beautiful chalk streams of continental Europe.  Parts of the Unec are deep and full of mystery, whilst on other stretches, the river flows briskly over gravel and pebbles offering the angler easy access and comfortable wading.  There is excellent fishing for both trout and grayling.  The Unec is justly famed for its prolific insect life, large hatches of mayfly, sedges and stoneflies.

The Krka River is a pure chalk stream with good numbers of both brown and rainbow trout.  It runs through lush water meadows in a part of Slovenia called Dolensjka.  It is a river of small waterfalls, fast runs and some deep pools.  The Krka is famed for its prolific sedge hatches.
SAVA BOHINJKA AND RADOVNA
Trout & Grayling
The Sava Bohinjka is a beautiful alpine river, which flows out of Lake Bohinjka through lovely scenery before joining the Sava Dolinka near the small town of Radovijica.  Brown trout, rainbow trout and grayling are present.  The level of the Sava Bohinjka is regulated by Bohiji Lake and is usually very constant.  The fish can be both selective and curious providing a challenge to the true fly fisherman.  Large hatches occur in June when the fishing for trout and grayling is excellent.

The Radovna is a much smaller river, flowing through the picturesque Krma valley and the impressive Vintgar.  In the upper reaches good brown trout are to be found with large rainbows lower down.
