The Azores

Marlin, Sailfish & Bluewater Fishing

The Azores and the Island of Faial is one of the best places to fish for blue marlin - the catches are spectacular.  Six of the 10 world records are held here, the largest being 1189lbs.  The average weight is around 450lbs but larger specimens of over 800lbs are often encountered.  White marlin are also abundant and are excellent sport on light tackle, the average being 60lbs with the occasional fish being closer to 100lbs.  The largest tuna landed is just over 1000lbs with many between 600 and 900lbs.  Other game fish include bluefin, big-eye and yellowfin tuna, spearfish and swordfish.
