| FISHING IN MADAGASCAR | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| The Beach Camp at Terra Rouge is primarily a fishing orientated establishment
situated right on the fishing grounds to the north of Nose Be’. Most of the local
pelagic game fish species are found in abundance including sailfish, trevally, dorado, king
mackerel, barracuda, wahoo, tuna etc. The reef fishing and bottom fishing are equally
good. Fishing from Nose Be’ is very under developed and fish densities on the
fishing grounds are high. The area is particularly renowned for its high sailfish
count. Water conditions in the area are fantastic, with very calm water, virtually no shore break and extremely high visibility. This north western section of the Malagasy coast is characterized by large bays, headlands, rocky outcrops and small islands, many of which are uninhabited. Due to the sheltered and calm water conditions it is an ideal introduction for new salt water fishermen as well as a Mecca for the more experienced. The camp operates three 22’ ski boats, all of which are well maintained and fully equipped for game fishing. The skippers and their one man crews are extremely adept at their jobs and are very knowledgeable in terms of fish species, their whereabouts and their proximity to the camp, thus avoiding un-necessary travel time in hunting for fish. The game tackle provided on the boats is of good quality and is in good condition. The camp mainly specializes in trolling and conventional big game fishing. Fly or spinning tackle should be taken along by visitors if required. |

| IMPORTANT NOTES | |||
| Nose Be’ is situated within a malaria zone and as such necessary precautions should be taken. Humidity in the summer months is also extremely high and one should guard against dehydration and sunburn. The best time to visit the island is between May and September. A visit during the rainy season from late November to March is not advisable. Nose Be' is suitable for both fishermen and non-fishing partners. | |||
| ACCOMMODATION | |||
| TERRA ROUGE BEACH CAMP, NOSE BE' | |||
| Accommodation is in six two bed, wood under thatch chalets, situated amongst palms on the beach. The chalets are basic but spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and mosquito nets. Ablutions are stand alone with a separate flushing toilet facility and a separate shower for every two chalets. Once again these are spotlessly clean and well maintained. Only cold water is available but due to the climate this is not usually a problem. The ablutions, restaurant area and kitchens have electricity and the chalets are lit at night by paraffin lamps. There is mobile phone reception a hundred metres from the camp. Phones may be charged in the restaurant area. | |||
