ALPHONSE ISLAND  All the bonefishing from Alphonse Island takes place on the atoll of St. Francois  The bonefishing is spectacular and the fish will take practically any fly you present to them. Often referred to as the most beautiful island in the Seychelles, this crescent-shaped island is set within kilometers of the spectacular sandy flats of the St Francois atoll and is a wilderness adventure in itself. Apart from the world-class flyfishing, it boasts a massive population of crustacea and a host of interesting bird species. The average size of the bonefish  is well over 4lbs with many fish between 6 and 8lbs.   You can also fish for yellow spot and blue trevally (10-12lbs), African pompano (in excess of 20lbs), barracuda (over 40lbs) and the elusive milkfish. All the fishing is done by wading either the vast spectacular hard silver sand flats, or along the edges of these over the central lagoon.

DESROCHES ISLAND  is the largest island in the Amirantes group, 5km long and 1.5km wide. It is 240km south-east of Mahé. Desroches Island Resort is the perfect destination for fisherman travelling with non fishing partners.  The majority of the fishing is on the atolls of le Poivre and St. Joseph but fishing on Remiere Ramiere Reef and  the African Banks is available from the outpost camp on Remiere Island.  The atolls are breathtakingly beautiful, particularly St. Joseph which is the largest, covering several square kilometres and comprising many small palm-covered islands and a lovely blue lagoon in the centre   They are about a 45 minute run from Desroches. There are more bonefish on St. Joseph  but large schools of Indo Pacific permit are found on le Poivre  together with giant  and  bluefin trevally.

During the rising tide you can expect 30-plus shots a day at singles and doubles for permit on Le Poivre.    While you can spend a week fishing on Le Poivre you can head north and spend a few days at the remote outpost camp on Remiere Island where you can fish Remiere Reef and the African Banks and enjoy spectacular blue water fishing.  Accommodation at Remiere lodge is simple but comfortable.  Remiere reef is three miles long and 2 miles wide and is a 5 minute ride by skiff from the lodge.  It has sand and turtle grass flats, deep azure holes  and coral heads;  milkfish come to fish here and schools of permit inhabit the area with GTs being the dominant species.  With predators at every turn and large tidal fluxes the reef is inhospitable to bonefish.   The area has been hardly fished and is a true saltwater wilderness waiting to be explored.  Remiere Island is also a turtle nursery and is home to many bird species including frigate birds, sooty terns, fairy terns and a number of others.   The Aftican Banks is a series of two sandbar islands at the northern tip of the Amirantes.   They are a 30 minute ride from Remiere and are surrounded by white sand flats and the area is almost unexplored – schools of bonefish and permit are to be found – the area is still to be explored.
