Iceland - Minnivallalaekur River
Hosted by Charles Jardine
Meandering through farmland at the foothills of Mt Hekla, the 7km Minnivallalaekur River, or ‘Minni’, is a dry-fly angler’s dream. The Minni is a quality over quantity fishery; wild brown trout average 3-4lbs, with double figure fish caught each season.
As the Icelandic summers are short, the trout need to gorge when food is plentiful. July is typically prime time for dry fly sport. You will aim to spot fish before making a cast; observation and strategizing is key, as the trout can be spooky and highly selective.
Accommodation is in a comfortable lodge that overlooks one of the best pools on the river. Charles is a good cook and will organise meals. N.B. This is a self-catering lodge, and some help with the domestic chores will be required from the group.
The Minni is a four-rod river, which you will have exclusive use of during your stay.
Includes: Return flights from London to Keflavik with British Airways, 5 days SUV car hire, 4 nights' accommodation at Minnivallalaekur Lodge, with 4 days fishing (half, full, full, full, half) for trophy wild brown trout. All meals at the lodge. 1 night on bed & breakfast at the Aurora Hotel Keflavik.
