Wild Trout in the Pyrenees

The fishing is primarily for wild trout, with brown, rainbow and brook trout all available depending on the river and location.

The variety of water is one of the great attractions. Walk-and-wade fishing can take you through beautiful mountain valleys, small streams and larger rivers, while helicopter fishing opens up access to remote waters that would otherwise require long approaches on foot.

The fishing can be wonderfully visual and technical, with dry flies, nymphs and small streamers all having their place. Conditions and insect activity vary considerably according to altitude and time of year, so the ability to move between different rivers and elevations is a major advantage.

For something completely different, the region also offers the chance to target Mediterranean barbel, often affectionately described as the “mountain bonefish”. These powerful fish provide exciting sight-fishing opportunities in warmer, lower-altitude rivers.

Western Pyrenees

The lodge is housed in a 15th-century stone building on the banks of the Aragón River, combining historic character with comfortable modern accommodation. From here, guides can access a wide selection of carefully chosen trout waters throughout the surrounding mountains.

The western area offers an excellent variety of rivers and streams, with fishing ranging from intimate wading to larger water and, where conditions allow, helicopter-accessed remote fisheries.

Eastern Pyrenees

In the Eastern Pyrenees, Arén Lodge is a charming traditional inn ideally positioned for exploring the area's diverse fishing.

The landscape here is quite different, providing access to another extensive network of rivers and mountain streams. The combination of higher-altitude trout water and warmer Mediterranean-influenced rivers also provides the opportunity to target barbel alongside trout.

Combining the two regions during a single trip gives anglers an excellent opportunity to experience the remarkable diversity of the Pyrenees.
