The Bahamas - Mayaguana
Hosted by: Mark Bowler
This escorted DIY trip to Mayaguana, with Mark Bowler, is about as close as it gets to old-school Bahamian flats fishing. Mayaguana is the most easterly island in the Bahamas and one of the least developed, with vast, lightly fished flats and a population of just a few hundred. Most days are spent wading untouched western flats and beaches, hunting large, hard-fighting bonefish — many well into double figures — with a few permit, like the one pictured above landed on a recent trip, to keep things interesting.
This is a trip best suited to experienced, self-reliant anglers who enjoy reading water, covering ground, and fishing on foot rather than being guided to fish. Access to the flats is by boat, truck, and even canoe in places, adding to the sense of exploration. Quiet, remote, and wonderfully unspoilt, Mayaguana offers a rare chance to fish the Bahamas as it used to be.
Includes: Return international flights, 1st night at the Orange Hill Beach Inn on room only, internal flights from Nassau to Mayaguana, all transfers & transport on the island, 7 nights single room accommodation at Baycaner Beach Resort, full board (breakfast, cooler lunch and dinner each day), 6 days escorted DIY flats fishing.
