Long Island is one of the quieter islands in The Bahamas, stretching approximately 80 miles from north to south. With beautiful white sand beaches, extensive shallow flats and remarkably clear water, it offers excellent bonefishing in a peaceful, unspoilt setting.
The island is particularly appealing to anglers who enjoy wade fishing, with numerous sheltered bays and flats that can be explored independently. Guided fishing provides access to more distant waters, while the surrounding reefs and deeper offshore areas offer opportunities for reef and big game fishing.
Cape Santa Maria
Cape Santa Maria is a beautiful beachfront resort situated at the northern end of Long Island, overlooking one of the finest stretches of white sand beach in The Bahamas.
The nearby flats of Joe's Sound, approximately 10–15 minutes away by skiff, offer excellent bonefishing. This extensive area of shallow sand flats, mangrove creeks and sheltered water supports good numbers of bonefish, with opportunities to encounter larger specimens. Much of the fishing is done by wading, making it particularly enjoyable for anglers who prefer to stalk fish on foot.
There are also opportunities to explore some of the island's accessible flats independently, while local guides can take anglers to more distant locations according to the tides and conditions.
Accommodation is in spacious beachfront bungalows and luxury villas, all comfortably furnished and air-conditioned. The resort has an excellent beachfront restaurant and bar, with wonderful views across the bay.
