BELIZE RIVER LODGE

Belize River Lodge is a historic fishing lodge situated on the banks of the Belize Olde River, approximately three and a half miles from the Caribbean Sea. Established in 1960, it was the first dedicated fishing lodge in Belize and has a long-standing reputation for excellent guiding and warm hospitality.

The lodge occupies a beautiful mahogany building surrounded by tropical gardens, offering comfortable accommodation, excellent Belizean-Creole cuisine and a relaxed, traditional atmosphere.

The fishing is wonderfully varied, with access to the river, mangrove-lined creeks, sheltered lagoons and the extensive flats along the Belizean coast. Bonefish, permit, tarpon and snook are all encountered, making this an excellent destination for anglers hoping to achieve a Grand Slam. Resident tarpon provide opportunities throughout the year, with larger migratory fish generally present during the summer months.

Experienced local guides have an intimate knowledge of these waters and tailor each day's fishing to the conditions and the interests of their guests. The variety of habitats also makes Belize River Lodge particularly appealing to anglers wishing to target several different species during their stay.

The surrounding area is rich in wildlife, with opportunities to see manatees, howler monkeys, iguanas and numerous tropical birds. A selection of excursions and activities can be arranged for non-fishing companions, making the lodge a good choice for couples and families.

In addition to the main lodge, alternative fishing arrangements are available aboard a liveaboard vessel or at the more secluded Outpost Lodge on Long Caye.
