CAYO LARGO

Cayo Largo lies within the beautiful Canarreos Archipelago, off Cuba's southern coast. Surrounded by white sand beaches, turquoise waters and extensive shallow flats, it offers some of the Caribbean's most attractive saltwater fly fishing.

The fishing takes place within a large protected marine area, where access is carefully managed and fishing pressure remains relatively light. The extensive network of flats, mangrove islands, lagoons and channels provides excellent opportunities for bonefish, permit and tarpon, with experienced local guides exploring different areas according to the tides and conditions.

The Fishing

Cayo Largo is particularly well regarded for its bonefishing, with good numbers of fish and the possibility of encountering some impressive specimens. Much of the fishing takes place on beautiful white sand flats, where anglers can stalk cruising and tailing bonefish in clear, shallow water. There are excellent opportunities for wading, as well as fishing from shallow-draft skiffs.

Permit are another important attraction, with opportunities to target these challenging fish across the flats and along the edges of deeper channels. Tarpon are also present in suitable waters, providing the possibility of achieving the coveted Grand Slam.

Snook, barracuda, jacks and snapper offer additional sport, while the variety of habitats allows anglers to explore different fishing situations throughout the week.

One of the great attractions of Cayo Largo is the sheer beauty and remoteness of the fishing grounds. With extensive areas of water and relatively few visiting anglers, it is possible to enjoy wonderfully peaceful days on the flats.

Accommodation – Jardines Avalon I

Accommodation is aboard the Jardines Avalon I, a comfortable 110-foot liveaboard yacht that allows anglers to explore some of the more remote areas of the Canarreos Archipelago.

The yacht has ten air-conditioned guest cabins, each with a private bathroom, together with a spacious lounge, dining area, bar and outdoor relaxation areas. Excellent meals are served on board, providing a welcoming atmosphere after a day on the water.

The liveaboard arrangement is a particular advantage, allowing the yacht to operate close to productive fishing areas and reducing the need for lengthy daily transfers. Anglers head out each morning with their guides to explore the surrounding flats, returning to the yacht in the afternoon.
