The Fishing

Watamu has a long and distinguished history of offshore game fishing, with productive waters offering opportunities for blue, black and striped marlin, sailfish, broadbill swordfish and shortbill spearfish.

The principal billfish season generally runs from November through to March, although different species can be encountered throughout much of the year. Yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dorado, kingfish and other game fish provide excellent additional sport.

The fishing grounds are conveniently accessible from Watamu, with experienced local skippers using their knowledge of the currents, offshore structure and seasonal movements of fish to make the most of each day's conditions.

We work with trusted local crews, including the experienced team aboard Sirai Sea, a well-equipped offshore game fishing boat powered by twin Cummins diesel engines. The boat is designed for both inshore and offshore fishing, providing a comfortable and capable platform for a variety of techniques.

Full-day charters typically run from approximately 6.30am to 4.30pm, with fishing tackle, licences and refreshments arranged as part of the charter.

Whether targeting billfish offshore or enjoying a more varied day fishing for tuna, wahoo and other species, Watamu offers an excellent introduction to Kenya's remarkable game fishing.
